As we say goodbye to another year and set some resolutions for the year to come I am drawn to the importance of gratitude. 2014 was definitely up and down for me I definitely had some pretty challenging moments and experienced some pretty dark times. So I would be pretty happy to slam the door in the face of 2014 (sorry 2014 but I am glad to see the back of you!), but although I seem to remember vividly those dark times I know that I have so much to be grateful for. I met some amazing people this year, and achieved some really awesome things – getting this blog up and going being one of them, a realization of a 2014 new years resolution (thanks Chloe x).
I turned to my gratitude journal today and it reminded me of the the moments filled joy, hope and light and I know I have come out the other side stronger and ready for all that is coming my way.
I only recently started to record things daily using the gratitude journal app, and I am definitely going to continue this daily ritual. It is easy to let things get on top of you but writing down these snippets of joy means you can go back and remind yourself and re-live these precious moments. For me some key words and names stood out, popping up in my journal a number of times.
Key words from my gratitude journal:
- Yoga – strength in practice, amazingly inspiring teachers and fellow yogis
- Swimming – Ocean, lake, pool, get me in the water
- NZ beauty – getting out exploring this beautiful country, trail runs, beaches, bush, nature
- Family, Friends, Flatmates – Love you all
- Healthy Body – being active, staying healthy
- New business ventures – exciting times, watch this space!
- Of course Food! food is fuel, food is medicine 🙂
Below is my gratitude mandala – this might be something you might want to try to start your gratitude journey, it makes you feel pretty warm and fuzzy writing downs all the lovely things you appreciate in your life.
Keeping an open mind is important, I know for me sometimes I stop believing in myself or the things I want I become disheartened, but if you don’t believe it is possible how can it become reality? Dream big!……2015 is filled with endless possibilities so let’s let go of the old and allow room for the new, believe in the unlimited potential.
Considering gratitude = happiness, I look towards 2015 with a lot of hope, I am going to choose happiness, remind myself of those great things and people in my life, get out and enjoy them and simply count my blessings each and every day.
Peace xx
